Rob D'Atri aka REALMZ is one of Sonic Groove's longest standing label artists. Rob has been involved in electronic music since the last decade of the 20th century. Growing up on a steadfast diet of Industrial/Post Industrial, Drum & Bass, Detroit techno, IDM, Electro among other forms of underground electronic music. His signature production style is typically defined by a strong focus on sound design and vibe, set across a multitude of uniquely written broken beat and 4/4 drum rhythms.

Here he submits a blistering set featuring some of his favorite classic and more obscure Drum & Bass tracks.
- "Some of the most memorable moments of my own musical history was experiencing the evolution of jungle/drum & bass at parties around the midwest and east coast between 94' to 00'. From the early blissful, ethereal, melodic jungle into the blunted mechanoid heaviness of tech step and beyond. It's impossible explain what it's like hearing this stuff for the first time at a party, when it's completely new and fresh. It's kind of like if you were there in NYC or London in the late 70's to experience the punk scene as it was unfolding and evolving. Hearing tech step in 96'... some of the first times it was played in the United States was just devastating, jaw dropping. I chose to focus the tracks of this mix from between 97' to 01' but the majority are from 99'-00'....a sort of transition period between tech step and what's commonly referred to as neurofunk. This period was also one of the last in which drum & bass was made on hardware samplers, outboard effects and mixing desks giving the tracks a bit more of a raw and organic feel....before it would become increasingly clean, slick, and I would argue overly focused on production technicality and sonic acrobatics and less on vibe. Hard to believe these tracks are between 18 and 23 years old as they sound as fresh and futuristic as ever in my opinion."
